Handloom Research and Designing Centre

The Directorate of Handloom & Textiles, Assam is running one Handloom Research and Designing Center situated at Guwahati along with the Head Quarter Building. 

The organization is involved in developing new and modernized designs for fabrics with different combinations of colour matching. It also works on preservation of age old design motifs of different tribes in the State and upgradation of the same by using computerized designing systems. 

Design Development training is provided in the existing Handloom Training Institutes to the trainee Artisans. Design development in Graphs is taught in manual form in these institutes along with colour matching. The method of manual card punching for weaving out the designs through Jacquard attachment is taught with practical training.

Under Central Govt. Cluster Schemes there is the provision of setting up of Computer Aided Textile Designing where designs are developed through computer by using sophisticated design software. The designs so developed are transformed into fabrics through Jacquard attachments in the Fly Shuttle Frame Looms

ACTIVITIES UNDERTAKEN BY HANDLOOM RESEARCH AND DESIGNING CENTRE DURING 2017-2022

During the period of 2017-2022, HRDC has developed 800 samples consisting of  738 cut samples and 62 display samples. These designs have been developed by Sri Manoj Kr. Baruah- Ex. Research Officer,  Smti Sujata Bhattacharyya- Ex.Textile Designer, Sri Nipan Goswami- Textile Designer and Sri Satyendra Nath- Art Designer

Some development and research activities on Handloom such as-

  1. HRDC successfully completed state Anthem of Assam on Fabric, woven in maina automatic handloom (one kind of semi-automatic handloom) in combination of 120 hooks jacquard and drawbay system and the same gifted to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam by the “Assam Sahitya Sabha”.
  2. The Design has been developed at holly fabric in the name of devotees of “Maa Kamakhya” at the workshop of HRDC.

 

During this period, HRDC conducted training on Dyeing, Weaving and Designing. Total 20 nos. of trainings have been completed in Dyeing and total 25 nos. of trainings have been completed in Weaving and Designing. The total nos. of Dyeing samples which have been developed are- 17 nos. in Synthetic and 40 nos. in Natural.
