In its endeavour to empower the indigenous weavers of the state and to provide financial support to the weaver families, the Government of Assam is implementing a flagship Scheme “SWANIRBHAR NAARI” through the Directorate of Handloom & Textiles, Assam.
Under the Scheme, traditional hand-woven items are to be procured directly from the indigenous weavers through the dedicated “Swanirbhar Naari” (swanibharnaari.assam.gov.in) portal without involving any middlemen.
Beneficiary weavers to be registered through the “Swanirbhar Naari” (swanibharnaari.assam.gov.in) portal. Any weaver producing the benchmarked items is to apply in the portal. The registration of the weavers will be accepted subject to physical field verification of the weavers by the Departmental officials.
Registration of weavers has been done through the specially developed “Swanirbhar Naari” (swanibharnaari.assam.gov.in) portal, where a total 6,00,924 applications have been received, out of which 5,64,811 applications are approved after thorough verification done by departmental officers.
For procurement of benchmarked traditional hand-woven items from the registered weavers, procurement centres have been set up in all districts of the state, where a total Rs. 19,24,06,252 has been paid for the procurement of 5,54,892 items from 19,845 weavers.
