Apparel & Garment Manufacturing Centre

The Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India has provisioned for an Apparel and Garment Manufacturing Center in each of the North Eastern States during the financial year 2014-15. As such one such Center has been awarded to the State of Assam for which land has been provided by the State Apex Cooperative Society ARTFED at Pachim Boragaon in Guwahati. The proposal was prepared through authorized Consultant of the Ministry of Textiles M/S Accenture. The Govt. of India has approved the same and accorded for implementation with financial involvement of Rs.18.18 Crore. The ARTFED has been declared as Implementing Agency.

The proposal included three units of garment manufacturing units with capacity of 100 sophisticated machineries for stitching, designing, cutting, calendaring, Computerised Designing etc. One of the three units is proposed to be used for Skill Development and the other two units for commercial production.

On 19th May,2015 the Hon,ble Union Minister for Textiles along with the Chief Minister of Assam have laid the Foundation Stone. 

 

The construction work has been awarded to the NBCC by the Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India and they have successfully completed the job in February,2016. The State Govt. has provisioned for the Electricity connectivity, Water supply and the approach road to the center.

 A State Level Committee was also constituted under the Chairmanship of the Secretary, Handloom Textile & Sericulture, Assam for looking after the implementation. The Committee along with representative from the Ministry of Textiles finalized SPVs for through a two bid process. Accordingly, M/s Fabric Plus of Guwahati has been allotted 2 Commercial Production Units and M/s.Mode Lama of Gurgaon has been allotted the Skill Development Unit.

Both the SPVs have been awarded the units for 3 years to establish their production and marketing business from the center. As per guideline the SPVs have to vacate the units after 3 years and shift their business establishment to their suitable places and these units will be allotted to fresh SPVs for next 3 years in similar manner.

The ARTFED will play an active role of Implementing Agency to maintain the campus dynamic and productive.

The project is inaugurated by the Hon’ble Minister of Textiles, Govt. of India Smti Smriti Zubin Irani on 28th January 2017.
